Good Hope leaned on its defense to hang around in the second half but ultimately fell to Etowah in overtime, 28-21, in Class 4A, Region 6 action on Sept. 22.
The Blue Devils (2-3, 2-1) completed a third-down pass for a touchdown in the extra period, while the Raiders (1-4, 0-2) failed to score on the ensuing possession as a pass on fourth down fell incomplete.
All the points in regulation were scored before halftime.
Good Hope would not have made it into overtime if not for Parker Johnson’s 30-yard touchdown pass to Weston Hancock as the first half ended. Earlier in the half, Johnson’s 9-yard scoring dash gave the Raiders a 7-0 lead.
After two touchdowns by Etowah, Landon Bagwell returned a fumble 40 yards for a score in the second period.
Etowah has an open date this week before hosting region rival Oneonta on Oct. 6.
