Eagles win area basketball championship

Hokes Bluff shot 64 percent from the 3-point line and 92 percent from the free throw line en route to a 50-45 victory over Geraldine in the finals of the Class 3A, Area 12 boys basketball tournament on Friday, Feb. 11, at Geraldine.
The Eagles will host Sylvania in the subregional playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 15).
For Hokes Bluff against Geraldine, Joran Presley scored 13 points, and grabbed six rebounds and distributed five assists. Landon Davenport added 11 points, followed by Avron Nix with nine. Kyle Patterson contributed six points and four rebounds.
In the Class 4A, Area 10 Tournaments, the Etowah boys lost to host Jacksonville, 95-69, on Saturday, Feb. 12. The Etowah girls fell to Cherokee County, 69-48, on Friday, Feb. 11, in Centre. The Blue Devils will travel to Handley in the subregional round, while the Lady Blue Devils visit Anniston.
