Gadsden City dispatches Senators

By Mike Goodson/Sports Correspondent

Gadsden City High placed four players in double figures on the way to a 90-74 victory over Sparkman on Tuesday (Nov. 17) at GCHS.

The win improved the Titans’ record to 3-0 and gave head coach Reginald Huff his 459th career victory.

Behind 20 points from Kalin Johnson and 11from Shond Kidd McKinney, Gadsden City ran out to a 27-19 lead after one quarter and went up 55-35 at the half.

The Senators drew within 68-57 after three quarters but the Titans turned the heat back up to win going away.

“We needed to see how we stood up against Sparkman,” said Huff. “They’re a good team and well-coached. “We ran out to a big lead but let them get back in it a little bit. But this is a special group of guys who have worked hard.”

Johnson finished with 25 points and seven assists, followed by McKinney with 22 points and seven assists.

Denzel Mooney added 16 points and 12 rebounds while Jacob Hyde chipped in 15 points and 10 boards.

Brandon Miller paced Sparkman with 22 points, followed by Anthony Anderson with 15.
