Glencoe’s Giles wins pair of medals at Class 3A state track meet

Glencoe and Hokes Bluff competed in the Class 3A state track and field meet on April 30-May 1 in Cullman.
Glencoe’s Katie Giles (pictured above) won two medals for the Lady Yellow Jackets. She was runner-up in the 1600-meter run at 5:23.90 and third in the 800-meter run at 2:24.45. She also came in fourth in the 3200-meter run at 11:55.83.
For the GHS boys, Hayden Smith earned the silver in the long jump at 20-06.75. He also earned points in the 100-meter dash with a seventh-place time of 11.41 seconds. Teammate T.J. Peeples finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 43-06.25.
Maddie Sims had fifth place showings in the discus (91-00) and the javelin (103-01).
The top performance from the Eagles came from Ian Stinson, whose 43-10.00 throw in the shot put was good for fifth place.
Coming in sixth for Hokes Bluff was the girls 4×800-meter relay team of Hope Thomason, Maddie Sims, Elizabeth Edge and Keira Johnson, which clocked in at 11:43.53, and the boys 4×800-meter relay team of Cole Turner, Bryer Morrison, Ethan Johnson and Sam Green, which posted a time of 9:09.17.
Placing seventh for the Eagles was Haley Kate Wellingham in the girls 400-meter dash (1:04.10) and the boys 4×400-meter relay team of Jordan Bradley, Ethan Johnson, Noah Monday and Dylan Johnston (3:48.83).
