Gadsden State Community College has the solution for summer boredom with the annual Camp Cardinal Program.  Slated to begin May 26 in Gadsden, and June 1 in Anniston and Centre, Camp Cardinal provides grade school students with a unique experience filled with education and fun.

Camps taught in Gadsden are open to children in grades K-8, Gadsden State-Cherokee offers its activities to children ages 7-12, and the Ayers Campus camps are available to students in grades K-6.

While Camp Cardinal allows children to use the summer to have fun and learn new skills, it also helps to build upon their education from the school year. Some of the camp topics for this year include Land of the Rising Sun, African Folklore, Bon Voyage, Lights/Cameras/ Action, Mad Scientist, Creative Art & Dance, “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” plus many more to choose from each week.

Camp Cardinal will offer exciting, fun and educational classes ranging from drama workshops where campers will write movie scripts and make props, to experiencing our world through hands-on experiments, to learning about famous people, art, food and other interesting activities about countries near and far. There is a camp to fit every child’s need and all activities are guided by instructors who are certified teachers or experts in their fields.

All camps will be held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and the cost is $60 per week.  Half day camps are available at a cost of $40 per week.  Parents will receive a 15 percent discount for additional children. Students are able to attend one week of camp or all eight weeks. Additionally, the Gadsden and Ayers camps will have a fun Friday field trip each week which will cost an additional $15 plus the cost of admission.  Fees do not include the cost of lunch and snacks. Early drop-off (from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.) and late pick-up (4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) is available for campers at no extra cost.

Participants must pre-register for all classes and space is limited to 20 children per camp. Call today to secure your space.

Details about each of the camps and the times and locations they will be offered can been found at http://www.gadsdenstate.edu/academics/continuing-education.php , or by calling 256-549-8305/256-549-8462.
