Sardis improved to 7-2 with three victories and one loss over the past week.
On Friday, Nov. 22, Jacee Holcomb finished with 17 points and eight rebounds and Mya Glass and Vada Willmore each scored 11 points as the Lady Lions beat Geraldine, 61-38. Sardis led 18-14 after one period, 33-28 at halftime and 44-34 after three quarters.
On Monday, Nov. 25, Sardis built a 43-14 halftime lead on the way to a 73-26 win over Ashville. Lynlee Wright had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Lions, while Mollie Brock contributed 10 points and nine assists. Delaney Lee added 10 points, followed by Willmore with nine and Jordyn Knight (pictured at left) with eight.
Despite Knight’s double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Sardis lost to Moody, 74-69, on Nov. 26.
“We just turned the ball over way too much in the first half to give a chance for a road win against a very good team,” said Sardis head coach Heath Cullom. “[Moody has] two guards that are as good as we will play against all year, and they gave us problems all night. Jordyn had a huge game and gave us a chance late with her shooting and defensive pressure. We outscored [Moody] 32-17 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a terrible first half.” Brock added 14 points for the Lady Lions, followed by Willmore with 13 and Wright and Shelby Abernathy with eight each.
Sardis rebounded with a 56-40 victory over Susan Moore on Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Willmore paced the Lady Lions with 11 points along with eight rebounds, while Wright added 10 points and seven boards. Emily Zavalas chipped in eight points, followed by Holcomb and Knight with six each.
“We had some dead legs and just didn’t shoot the ball well, but we scored 40 points in the paint, so all of my bigs played very well,” said Cullom. “Knight, Glass, and Lee had huge defensive games for us and did a great job guarding Susan Moore’s best players.
