Class 7A No. 1 Huntsville pulled away in the second half to take the Class 7A, Area 7 girls championship over fourth-ranked Gadsden City, 59-43 on Friday (Feb. 6) at HHS.

The Lady Titans face Spain Park at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the Northeast Regional Tournament semifinals at Jacksonville State. Class 7A has no subregional round.

The Lady Panthers (30-3) only had four players in the scoring column but three of those players had 15 points or more, led by Ta’Naisha Hill’s 20 points.

Both teams looked to run early as Brooke Burns paced the Lady Titans with eight points in the first quarter while Shaquera Wade tallied nine for the Panthers as Huntsville led 15-14 after one quarter.

Huntsville moved that to 27-22 at half, as Nakeia Burks scored six of her eight points in the second quarter. The Lady Panthers led 41-34 after three, then stepped on the gas in the fourth, outscoring Gadsden City 18-9.

Hill made nine free throws in the fourth quarter, including six consecutive in the final minutes as Lady Titans (22-5) were forced to foul.

Gadsden City was led by Haley Troup with 15 points.
