Lady Titans rally past Hartselle in first round

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Gadsden City outscored Hartselle 3-1 in the second half on the way to a 3-2 victory in the first round of the Class 6A girls state soccer playoffs on Thursday, April 20 at GCHS.
The Lady Titans (7-8-2) will play wither Cullman or Fort Payne in the second round this Monday (May 1).
Gadsden City tied the game five minutes into the second half on a rebound shot from Evie Millican. Five minutes later, a counter from Anna Klaire Ashley to Reagan Brooks to Holly Swafford made it 2-1 in favor of GCHS.
The Lady Tigers tied the game with 17 minutes remaining of a delay of game penalty on Gadsden City, but shortly thereafter Miriam Rasool found the Hartselle off of a direct kick.
GCHS defenders Margaret Stacy, Brooke Jackson, Mikenlee Brooks, Lilly Powers, Kennedy Guthrie, Rasool and Ashley shut down the Lady Tiger offense over the last 16 minutes.
Gwen Rikansrud made 11 saves in goal for on the Lady Titans.
