The Glencoe High School Lady Yellow Jackets raced to a 23-2 first quarter lead and never looked back in cruising to a 70-22 win over Westbrook Christian on Tuesday (Nov. 29) in Rainbow City.
Glencoe (3-1) was led by Asia Dennis’ 11 points but the Lady Jackets saw a very balanced scoring attack in which all 15 players scored.
GHS head coach Daniel Cook was happy with his team’s effort.
“We did a good job running the court and got a lot of points off of the transition game. (Westbrook) Coach (Jamie) Barkley does a great job, and we always have to be prepared when we play them.”
Glencoe led 23-2 at the end of the first quarter and 46-9 at halftime. The score was 32-2 before the Lady Warriors made their first field goal. Glencoe led 54-17 after three quarters.
“We have to learn to handle pressure,” said Barkley. “Glencoe has quick guards. I’m proud of our girls; they fought to the end. It would have been easy to quit in a game like this.”
Makenzie Saunders led Westbrook with nine points.
