Local players football recognized

Several area high school football players were nominated for both the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Player of the Week award and the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Prep Spotlight for the week of Sept. 12.

Gadsden City senior quarterback Ahmad DeRamus passed for 275 yards and four touchdowns on 12 of 15 passing in the Ti-tans’ 48-14 victory over Grissom.

Etowah junior running back Paul Ruiz rushed 26 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns and caught another touchdown in the Blue Devils’ 37-23 victory over Randolph.

Gaston’s Albert Douglas recorded two interceptions, returning one 75 yards for a touchdown, in the Bulldogs’ 21-12 victory over Ider.

Glencoe senior running back Thomas Ozmint rushed for 244 yards – including 139 yards and four touchdowns in the first half – in the Yellow Jackets’ 56-0 victory over Westbrook Christian.  

Southside sophomore running back Aleric Williams gained 135 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown and caught a 54-yard touchdown pass in the Panthers’ 41-13 win over Arab.
