One local student-athlete medaled and several others posted top 10 performances at the Last Chance Invitational track and field meet last Saturday (Jan. 29) at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Westbrook Christian’s Carl Henry was the lone area medalist with a third-place effort of 49 feet, seven inches in the shot put.
Finishing in the top 10 were:
* Taylor Knight, Ashville: fifth in the girls’ 1600-meter run, 5:38.19
* The Ashville girls 4×800-meter relay team of Wyatt Knight, Clayton Knight, Ashton Vann and Joe Stevens, 8:49.91
* The Ashville girls 4×800-meter relay team of Taylor Knight, Emma Thompson, Kathleen McCarthy and Emma Drinkard, 10:52.37
* Jackson Griggs, Southside: seventh in the boys’ 1600-meter run, 4:34.07
* Garrett Spears, Ashville: seventh in boys’ pole vault, 8-6
* Emma Drinkard, Ashville: eighth in the girls’ 400-meter dash, 1:03.16
* Joe Stevens, Ashville: ninth in the boys’ 3200-meter run, 10:41.41
