Southside to play in state soccer semifinals

Anna Kate Welch had 17 saves in goal in Southside’s 2-0 shutout over Cullman in the Class 6A state girls soccer quarterfinals last Saturday (May 1). Alana Morton scored twice for the Lady Panthers in the first half, with Graysn Carter (pictured above at right) assisting on both goals. Southside (15-4-2) will face Homewood in the state semifinals this Friday (May 7) at 9 a.m. at John Hunt Park in Huntsville. The state championship game is set for Saturday, May 8, at 10 a.m.
On April 27, Morton scored three goals and Camryn Davis and Madison Ashley each scored two in Southside’s 9-2 second-round win over Randolph in Huntsville. Carter and Ziniah Hardy also scored for the Lady Panthers, while Camryn Davis distributed three assists, followed by Carter, Morton and Leah Lewis with one each. Anna Kate Welch had five saves in goal.
