Southside trio wins state wrestling titles

Three Southside High wrestlers won their individual weight classes to help the Panthers finish in second place in the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament last weekend in Huntsville.

Senior Kade Kitchens won his second straight 170-pound title with a pin of Pinson Valley’s Deon Gregory at 2:07 of the first period.

Junior Noah Bradford defeated Arab’s Javon Cortez by a 6-2 decision for the 145-pound title.

Sophomore Jacob Smith won the 106-pound title with a 4-1-decision victory over Stanhope Elmore’s Ty Naquin.

In addition, sophomore Landon Thompson finished second to Hueytown’s Deandre Anderson with a 14-8 decision loss in the 132-pound weight class.

Arab won the state championship with a total of 244.5 points, followed by Southside was with 135 points, Oxford with 131 and Muscle Shoals with 107.
