Stevens’ first-place run helps Ashville win season-opening 5K

Sparked by Joe Stevens’ first-place finish, Ashville won the Class 4A-7A Wildcat Twilight 5K on Thursday, Aug. 19 at White Plains.
Stevens (pictured above), the defending champion in the Class 4A 3200-meter run, posted a winning time of 17:44.61, more than 30 seconds faster than runner-up Ja’Leel Harris of Lincoln. The Bulldogs edged Lincoln, 19:15.96 to 19:32.12 in average time.
Three Ashville runners finished in the top 10 – Wyatt Knight in fifth place at 19:10.28, Clayton Knight in sixth place at 19:13.96 and Ashton Vann in ninth place at 19:17.98. Posting top 25 performances were Walker Griffith in 23rd place at 20:52.93 and Bruce Pantoja in 25th place at 20:58.37.
Also helping the Bulldog cause was Greyson Simpson (21:35.81), Auggie Lemonds (22:40.54), Carter Jones (22:54.93), Maddox Vann (24:06.13) and Kanyon White (24:16.31).
Glencoe’s Conner Cothran came in 12th in the Class 1A-3A boys race (20:35.39).
