Tough defense helps Sardis beat Brewer

The Sardis defense pitched a shutout over the final three quarters in the Lions’ 12-7 victory over A.P. Brewer on September 23 in Somerville.
Sardis (3-2, 1-1) opened the scoring on Brian Chapman’s 15-yard TD pass to Eli Morton at 8:37 of the first quarter.
The Patriots (3-3, 2-1) went up 7-6 later in the period on Caden Childers’ 15-yard scoring strike to Walker Latham, but Sardis took the lead for good with two minutes left in the first half when Chapman (pictured above) and Carson Gillilan connected for a 20-yard TD pass.
For the Lions, Blaze Gerhart rushed for 138 yards on 25 carries. Chapman was 6 for 15 in passing for 69 yards. Gillilan caught two passes for 36 yards.
Sardis travels to Douglas this Friday (Sept. 30) in Class 5A, Region 7 action.
