West End suffered its first loss of the season on September 8 in a 21-14 defeat at the hands of Class 2A, Region 6 rival Southeastern in Remlap.
Southeastern went ahead 7-0 with 17 seconds left in the first quarter on Gerald Sprayberry’s 8-yard touchdown run.
The Patriots (3-1, 1-1) tied it on a six-yard TD run by quarterback Tyler Jones midway through the second period, then took the lead less than two minutes later when Thad Pearce (pictured above) recovered a fumble and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Evan Stancil kicked both extra points.
But the Mustangs drew within 14-13 shortly before halftime on Jackson McMillan’s 56-yard touchdown pass to Logan Davis, and Southeastern took the lead for good on Sprayberry’s seven-yard score and two-point conversion run at 6:53 of the third quarter.
Southeastern finished with a 298 to 123 advantage in total yards, including a 185 to 88 edge on the ground.
Jones was 4 for 15 in passing for 35 yards. Pearce rushed for 50 yards on three carries, while
Rock Sainsbury ran seven times for 32 yards.
