Patriots run roughshod over Gaylesville

Three West End players rushed for over 100 yards and other finished just shy of the century mark as the Patriots opened their 2023 season with a 48-0 shutout over Gaylesville on Friday, Aug. 25 in Walnut Grove.
West End amassed 522 total yards, including 512 on the ground, while holding the Trojans to 31.
Jaxon Hamby paced the Patriots with 121 yards on 11 carries and scored five touchdowns. Rock Sainsbury ran seven times for 120 on seven and a touchdown and Kane Lawson tallied 102 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts and a score. Freshman Braison Howard rushed for 91 yards on 15 carries.
West End opened the scoring on Lawson’s 15-yard TD run late in the first quarter, with Jace Golden converting the first of his four extra points on the night.
The Patriots then punched in four more scores during the second frame – Hamby from one yard and 62 yards out, Sainsbury from 62 yards out and Lawson from one yard away.
Hamby added touchdowns of two yards and 14-yards in the third quarter to cap the scoring.
Fysher Patterson had two fumble recoveries, while Drake McDevitt had one. West End travels to Susan Moore on Friday, Sept. 1.
