Westbrook beats Wellborn but fails to gain playoff spot

With the final two playoff berths in Class 3A Region 6 on the line, Westbrook Christian did its part with a 47-24 victory over Walter Wellborn on Friday, Nov. 1 in Anniston.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Weaver did not do Westbrook any favors with a 54-21 win over J.B. Pennington.
Although Westbrook and Weaver finished the regular season with identical 4-4 region records, since Weaver held the tiebreaker with the Warriors, the Bearcats earned the region’s third seed and Ohatchee the fourth seed. At 6-4, Westbrook did post its first winning season since 2020.
Against Walter Wellborn, Westbrook led 33-12 at halftime and 4-12 after three quarters.
For the Warriors (6-4, 4-4), quarterback Brody Blevins finished with 328 total yards and four touchdowns. He was 12 for 14 in passing for 175 yards and a touchdown and rushed 13 times for 153 yards and three TDs.
Brodie Johnson had seven receptions for 166 yards and a touchdown, while Bo Kilgo and Brodey Wood both caught four passes. Wood gained 47 yards and two touchdowns on six carries. Sam Sollie was 4 for 5 in passing for 22 yards.
Max Legg led the way defensively with 12 tackles, followed by Titus Jones and Brooks Whiteside with nine each, Noah Wright and Easton Skaggs with eight each, Jackson Ramsey with seven and Jaxon Marotz, Isaiah Hooten and Landyn Thrasher with five each. Four of Jones’ tackles were for a loss. Whiteside and Wright each had a sack.
