Westbrook, Etowah, GSCC notch match wins

Etowah swept a quad match last Monday (Sept. 27). The Lady Blue Devils (15-4, 3-1) defeated Ashville, 25-18, 21-25, 15-12; DAR, 27-25, 25-18; and Sardis, 27-25, 27-25. For Etowah, Jaleigh Devine had 41 kills, seven kills and three digs; Shelby Horton had 48 assists, five kills and three digs; Anna Jones had 15 kills, five digs, three blocks, two aces and two assists; Abbi Martin had 17 digs and six aces; and Elli Jones had 14 digs and three aces.

Southside split a tri-match last Monday (Sept. 27). The Lady Panthers (33-8) beat Scottsboro, 15-12, 25-7 and lost to Arab, 29-27, 16-25, 9-15. For Southside, Macey Herren and Keelan Vice each had 17 kills, while Ziniah Hardy added eight. Kathryn Webb distributed 40 assists. Hannah Rogers served up eight aces, followed by Hardy with five and Rylie Kitchens with two. Rogers came up with 15 digs, followed by Herren and Kitchens with 14 each, Hardy with 12 and Vice with nine. Vice also had two blocks.

Westbrook Christian swept Brindlee Mountain, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 on September 23 in Rainbow City. For the Lady Warriors (10-6, 2-1), Brielle Wood had 19 assists, 10 kills and five digs; Bella Millirons had nine digs, six kills and two aces; Landri Lipscomb had six kills, three digs, two blocks and two aces; Raegan Harrell had six kills; and Taylor Meador (pictured above at right) had four kills.

Etowah swept a tri-match on September 23. The Lady Blue Devils (12-4, 3-1) defeated Ashville, 3-1 and Cherokee County, 2-0. Against Ashville, Jaleigh Devine had 25 kills, four blocks and three digs; Shelby Horton had 39 assists; Abbi Martin had 10 digs and three aces; Ellington Jones had five digs and four aces; Anna Jones had four kills, three digs and three blocks; and Laura Wood had eight kills and two digs. Against Cherokee County, Horton had nine assists, Martin had four aces and four digs, Chloe Kelly had three kills and Aydea Black and three digs.

Southside fell to Class 6A, Area 13 rival Springville, 19-25, 20-25, 25-11, 25-27, on September 23. For the Lady Panthers, Macey Herren and Keelan Vice each had 15 kills, while Kathryn Webb distributed 37 assists. Herren and Hannah Rogers each came up with 10 digs, while Web had seven. Herren and Vice had four and three blocks, respectively, while Rogers and Webb both had two aces.

Gadsden State defeated L.B. Wallace, 25-14, 25-20, 25-9 in Alabama Community College Conference action on September 24 at Beck Field House. Foe the Lady Cardinals (5-8, 4-6),
Moriah Seay had 13 kills, followed by Maegan Milligan with six and Savannah Manley with five. Madalynn Owen had six aces, while Milligan added three.
