Westbrook, Glencoe, Southside, Gaston, Hokes Bluff, Etowah, Sardis to play for area tournament championships

Boys

Cooper King scored 25 points and Eli Edge netted 19 in Westbrook Christian’s 68-51 victory over Hokes Bluff in the Class 3A Area 12 Tournament semifinals on Feb. 5 at Glencoe. Nolan Terrell added 10 points for the Warriors (16-10), while Cooper Greer chipped in nine. Westbrook will face Glencoe in the tournament championship game on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

Six players scored in double figures for Glencoe in the Yellow Jackets’79-49 win over Ohatchee in the Class 3A Area 12 Tournament semifinals on Feb. 5 at Glencoe. Aiden Cornutt paced Glencoe with 19 points, followed by Garrett Morgan, Wade Segrest and Jake Roberson with 14 each; Grant Smith with 13; and Jayden Patton with 12. The Yellow Jackets will play Westbrook Christian for the tournament championship on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.

Cayden Reason and Mason Stephens both finished with a double-double to help Southside post a 57-49 victory over Lincoln in the Class 5A Area 12 Tournament semifinals at Southside. Stephens finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Reason ended up with 10 points and 12 boards. Silas Osborne scored nine points, followed by Hayes Cosby and Cayden McMichael with eight each and Reid Robinson with six. The Panthers play Alexandria for the tournament championship on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.

Gaston defeated Collinsville, 40-36, in the semifinals of the Class 2A Area 12 Tournament on Feb. 5 at Gaston. The Bulldogs will face Fyffe in the tournament championship game on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 5:30 p.m.

Etowah defeated Hanceville, 75-45, in the Class 4A Area 11 Tournament semifinals on Feb. 3 in Attalla. Marquan Mahone and Jameson Scissum each scored 15 points for the Blue Devils, with Scissum also grabbing eight rebounds. Jalien Walker finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks, while Lamont Richardson contributed 14 points, eight deflections, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jacob Turner chipped in nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Etowah faces Oneonta for the tournament championship on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

Sardis clipped Crossville, 81-28, in the Class 5A Area 13 Boys tournament on Feb. 3 in Sardis City. The Lions (26-2) led 26-10 after one period, 49-18 at halftime and 67-25 after three quarters. Carson Gillilan paced Sardis with 18 points, followed by Eli Morton with 15 and Kason Moore Andrew Felter and Cole Lankford with nine each. The Lions will face Douglas for the tournament championship on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

Ashville came up short to Oneonta, 55-52, in the Class 4A Area 13 Tournament on Feb. 3 in Attalla. J.B. Potter paced the Bulldogs with 16 points, followed by Parker Smith with 14 and Dalton Rice-Thompson with 10. Smith also had 12 rebounds, six steals and two blocks.

Jacksonville Christian edged Coosa Christian, 52-49, the Class 1A Area 12 Tournament on Feb. 2 at Spring Garden.

Gadsden City fell to Oxford, 62-55, in the Class 6A, Area 13 Boys Tournament on Feb. 3 at Fort Payne.

West End fell to Decatur Heritage 70-37, the semifinals of the Class 2A Area 13 Tournament on Feb. 3 in Decatur.

Girls

Ashville defeated Etowah, 38-22, in the Class 4A Area 11 Tournament semifinals on Feb. 5 at Hanceville. Both teams qualified for the subregional playoffs on Friday, Feb. 9. In the tournament semifinals on Feb. 2, Etowah edged Hanceville, 25-23, and Ashville beat Oneonta, 39-36.

Gadsden City lost to Oxford, 45-31, in the Class 6A Area 13 Tournament championship game on Feb. 5 at GCHS. Both teams qualified for the subregional playoffs on Friday, Feb. 9.

Hokes Bluff edged Westbrook Christian, 32-27, and Glencoe dispatched Ohatchee, 55-24, in the semifinals of the Class 3A, Area 11 Tournament on Feb. 3 at Glencoe. The Lady Eagles and Lady Yellow Jackets will play for the tournament championship on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

Sardis breezed past Crossville, 81-29, in the Class 5A Area 13 Girls tournament on Feb. 3 in Sardis City. The Lady Lions face Boaz in the tournament finals on Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m.

Coosa Christian lost to Cedar Bluff, 58-35, in the Class 1A Area 12 Girls Tournament on Feb. 3 at Spring Garden.

Gaston fell to Sand Rock, 52-26, in the Class 2A Area 12 Girls Tournament semifinals on Feb. 3 at Sand Rock.

West End lost to Decatur Heritage 65-25, in the Class 2A, Area 13 Tournament semifinals in Decatur.
