Pace Ozmint scored a game-high 18 points to lead Glencoe High to a 70-62, come-from-behind win over Ohatchee on Tuesday (Feb. 11) in the Class 3A, Area 11 Tournament semifinals in Rainbow City.
The Yellow Jacket (16-12) face Westbrook Christian in Thursday’s championship game.
Glencoe head coach Jason Gilley was proud to get this game behind them.
“We were coming off of a big win over Cherokee County, and I was concerned about a letdown. I’m proud of the way we battled back in this one.”
The Indians took a 19-11 lead after the first quarter and led by double digits at 29-19 with 3:30 remaining in the first half. The Yellow Jackets seemed to receive a wakeup call at that point, outscoring the visitors from Calhoun County 14-4 to draw even at 33-33 at the half.
“We just had to get started and the guys hit some big outside shots,” said Gilley.
The third quarter was a seesaw affair, with Glencoe finally taking a 48-46 lead after three periods of play.
The Yellow Jackets iced the game from the free throw line down the stretch, hitting 13 of 18 attempts during the final eight minutes of play.
Cole Holbrooks added 17 points for Glencoe, followed by Justin Barkley with 14 and Dalton Roberts with 13.
The Indians were led by Austin Tucker with 22 points, Micah Lee with 14 and Ben Glass with 12.
