Hokes Bluff is scoring enough points to win a game or three – but the defense still needs some shoring up.

“We need to work on run defense,” coach Mike Robertson said. “We did some good things (against Alexandria) but we still need to improve, especially on defense.”

Class 4A, Region 5 rival Lincoln is in a similar boat, but a new coach in Brad Wallace has Robertson guessing.

The Golden Bears have a new coach for the third time in four seasons.

“They’re fast, as usual,” Robertson said. “They’re very athletic and talented but with a new coach, we hope to be able to hang with them.

“Their record doesn’t indicate the kind of talent they actually have and part of that is the competition. In this region, everybody beats up on everybody else and one team’s strong point can make another’s weak area look worse.”

Last week against Jacksonville, Chase Beggs rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries.

Cole Williams completed 11-of-6 passed for 71 yards.

Ethan Coffman and Sam Cole each had two catches.

Noah Click had 21 tackles, followed by Chase Pope with 13 and Phillip Word and Zack Robertson with 12 each.
