‘That’s What Friends R 4’ benefit jam planned for Danny Moon

By Donna Thornton/News Editor

Joey Nichols knew Danny Moon has been a friend and supporter to local musicians for a long time, and he felt certain that fellow musicians would be willing to help Moon, who has been facing health issues, has been unable to work and spent 30 days in the hospital this year.

Nichols said he didn’t foresee the outpouring he received, but he’s grateful for it.

Moon is a well-respected local musician and the former owner of MoonSong Acoustic Cafe.

“It’s going to be something,” Nichols said, of the event planned for Dec. 6 at Elliott Community Center.

“Everybody in the world is going to be there,” Nichols said.

Doors will open at 2 p.m. for a bake sale, auction and yard sale, Nichols said. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Music will kick off at 3 p.m. with an all-star jam.

Nichols said the opening jam, in addition to a closing all-star session, was added to the lineup to help accommodate all the musicians who wanted to be involved in a project to help Moon.

“Some of them will be mad if they don’t get to perform,” Nichols said.

There will be vendors and event t-shirts for sale, he said, in addition to the bake sale, yard sale and the auction, featuring a  variety of donated items.

There will be food vendors, he said, and people can bring small coolers if they wish.

To donate items for the auction, people may contact Kristen Clough at 256-572-0101.

Nichols is organizing the event, along with Bob Collins, of Willie’s Woods, Ron Greer, William Spurlock, Leon Smith and Chas Cmusic.

An account has been set up in Moon’s name at Wells Fargo Bank. Donations will be accepted for the Danny Moon/Benefit Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank branch, or donations may be made online through Paypal to DannyVMoon@me.com.
