June 20 is the day to renew friendships with fellow Gadsden High School Gold Tigers. Who are the Gold Tigers? We are the Gold Tigers, members of the Gold Tiger Association made up of Gadsden High School alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago.
Last year’s reunion inducted the GHS Class of 1964 on its 50th anniversary of its graduation. This year the class of 1964 will host the reunion as the Gold Tiger Association inducts the class of 1965 on its golden anniversary.
The 19th Annual Gold Tiger Reunion is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, June 20, at the Gadsden Convention Hall. Tickets are $25. To make reservations, send checks payable to Gold Tiger Club, P.O. Box 1964, Gadsden, AL. Reservations are required.
Almost 3000 invitations were mailed and the expectations are for the largest number yet to attend the reunion. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m. Shuttle services will be provided for those who need it. There will be memorabilia from the Gadsden High Museum along with Crucibles from every year. After the initial greeting and visitation hour, there will be a short program followed by a catered dinner. A DJ will provide dance music. There will also be a cash concession with soft drinks and ice for sale throughout the evening.
For past Gold Tigers reunions, alumni have traveled from many states and from foreign countries. The economic impact of the event is significant, as those traveling from out of the state fill motel rooms and dine at restaurants while visiting the city.
Mike Keracher, chairman of this year’s host class reunion committee, expects to see over 600 Gold Tigers assembled at the reunion. Committee members have worked hard to prepare for the reunion. They have planned the meal, entrainment, program and decorations. He believes that this will be the best event in the history of the Gold Tigers. As committee member Nancy Cooper Wells said, “It is always great to be together. It will be fun.”
