Etowah High School dropped its 2012 baseball season opener to Guntersville on Feb. 20, 4-2.

Westbrook senior signs soccer scholarship

 Westbrook Christian senior Ali Collins recently signed a soccer scholarship with Columbia (S.C.) College. 

Collins led the Lady Warriors in scoring from her sophomore though her senior year. 

Collins is one of the top soccer players in Etowah County, and received All-State and All-Area honors numerous past seasons.

Ledbetter leads Etowah Bees in opener

Caleb Ledbetter batted 3-for-3 with a run and a stolen base as Etowah’s junior varsity defeated Springville, 8-2, in the 2012 season opener on Feb. 20. The game was the first of a doubleheader at Attalla’s Larry Foster Field.

Ledbetter slapped hits in the first, third and fourth innings. Braxton Woods scored two runs for the Blue Devils.

Cassidy, Tinker lead Glencoe to Regionals

Chance Cassidy scored 25 points to lead Glencoe over White Plains in Northeast Sub-regional boys basketball action on Feb. 17, 71-61.

Cassidy and White Plains’ Jaylen Hill engaged in a fourth quarter shootout, with each netting 12 and ten points, respectively.
