Westbrook Christian soccer star Ali Collins signed a soccer scholarship with Columbia (S.C.) College during a special ceremony in the school’s gymnasium on May 14.

“42” filming underway at Rickwood Field

The Jackie Robinson movie “42” began filming at Birmingham’s Tutwiler Hotel on May 14, before moving to Rickwood Field on Tuesday.

A production truck and vintage automobiles were parked outside the Tutwiler late Sunday afternoon in anticipation of the first day of filming.

Gaston High School basketball star Morgan Beaird was the most highly decorated female high school athlete during the 2011-12 school year.
