Facilities needed for use as shelter for communities

For many in Etowah County, the destruction and loss of life during the April 27, 2011 tornadoes is a fresh memory.
Two years later, Etowah County is working toward the establishment of several Federal Emergency Management Agency-standard community shelters throughout the county, Gadsden-Etowah County Emergency Management Agency Operations Manager Michael Amberson said.

Teacher earns ice cream for Iva Lee Students

Students at Iva Lee Elementary School screamed for ice cream April 23, as they received treats from Blue Bell Creameries, in recognition of Iva Lee teacher Farrah Kilgo being named a finalist for Alabama Teacher of the Year.

ECSO, DEU to ‘take back’ unused prescription drugs

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office and Drug Enforcement Unit is asking Etowah County citizens to participate in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.
The event will take place on April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YMCA of the Coosa Valley in conjunction with Healthy Kids Day. The YMCA of the Coosa Valley is located at 100 Walnut Street in Gadsden.
