Businesses that employ people with disabilities honored

The Etowah and Marshall County Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities, a program of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, recognized employers and others who have helped make successful employment of people with disabilities possible on Oct. 9.

Mocs will hit the rocks at Noccalula Falls Park on Nov. 23

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Department and the YMCA of the Coosa Valley will host the second annual Mocs on the Rocks Trail Run on Nov. 23, benefiting Operation Christmas Cheer and the YMCA’s scholarship program.

Knights of Columbus helps those with intellectual disabilities

Members of the Knights of Columbus are preparing for the annual Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities – a fundraising effort that finds members selling Tootsie Rolls and taking donations to support assistance organizations.

Last year the campaign raised more than $7,900, which was donated to the Smeltzer Center, Snellgrove Center and the Etowah and Cherokee Training Centers.

Gadsden Service Guild to hold rummage sale

The Gadsden Service Guild’s annual rummage sale will be held Saturday, Nov. 2, at Gadsden’s Convention Hall, located at 344 South First Street.  The sale begins at 6 a.m. General ticket entry is $1 and can be purchased at the door.  Doors will close at 11 a.m. and will re-open at 12 p.m. for a $5 bag sale. First Friday will salute veterans

First Friday in November will be a salute to veterans, Downtown Gadsden Inc. Executive Director Kay Moore said.

Everyone is invited to participate, wearing their red, white and blue to honor all those who served the nation in the armed forces.

The Gadsden State Show Band will perform at the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts, and those with military vehicles

With the official celebration of Halloween just days away, activities abound in and around Gadsden, some celebrating the holiday and some just celebrating.

The YMCA of the Coosa Valley hosts “Craftin’ on the Coosa” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 26) at the Y at 100 Walnut Street in Gadsden. There will be vendors with demonstrations and giveaways throughout
