The shortage of plasma from people with Type AB blood continues, but LifeSouth hopes a change that went into effect on June 11 could help them connect with a few more potential donors.

United Way to kick off annual Day of Action

United Way of Etowah County will kick of its annual Day of Action on Friday, June 20, 2014. 

Over 400 volunteers, employees from area companies, and other participants will help various agencies all over the Gadsden community with cleaning, painting, yard work and other needs from 8 am until noon. 

United Way is also partnering with West End Elementary, Floyd Elementary, Thompson

GSCC employees graduate from ACCLA

Two Gadsden State Community College employees graduate from the Alabama Community College Leadership Academy. 

The graduates were Director of Financial Services Jacqueline Clark and art instructor Mario Gallardo.

J. Holland appointed

Gov. Robert Bentley has appointed J. Holland as the newest member of the Gadsden Civil Service Board.

“I look forward to serving the people of Gadsden – the city I love,” Holland said.

Holland has been a long time resident of the Gadsden area and has been very active in civic and community work in Gadsden since the late 1970s.

Program seeks sponsors

The Alabama State Department of Education, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), is seeking sponsors to operate the 2014-2015 At-Risk Afterschool Program for Alabama children. 

Qualified sponsors are reimbursed for program operating and administrative expenses of preparing and serving meals to eligible children at their sites.

After the school day is over, the At-Risk Afterschool Program provides nutritious snacks or meals
