New Device at Riverview Brings Hope

Riverview Regional Medical Center’s Heart & Vascular team performed Etowah County’s first-ever Abiomed Impella 2.5 procedure on Wednesday, Aug. 13th. Dr. B. J. Patel, a Cardiologist at Riverview Regional Medical Staff, performed the procedure. This new technology is aimed at providing fast, effective relief for critically ill patients suffering from heart attack and heart failure.

Principal gets drenched to raise ALS awareness

Principal Delsia Easley of W. E. Striplin Elementary recently participated in the ALS ice water challenge to raise awareness.
In addition, the school collected over $150 for the cause.

MANNA searches for weekly volunteers

MANNA is a non-profit company that provides a daily meal, Monday through Friday, to people who are disabled or otherwise unable to cook for themselves. They provide this service to the greater Gadsden region.
On a daily basis, MANNA delivers 225 meals. Many of these are specially prepared for specific dietary needs, such as diabetic, low sodium or pureed.

The Gadsden State Community College Continuing Education Department will offer classes this fall with high school students in mind as well as lifelong learners.

The Gadsden State Community College Student Government Association is sponsoring several blood drives during the fall semester in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
