Sardis’ Hubbard named player of the week
Sardis High’s Jesse Hubbard kept taking things away from Sylvania on Friday, helping the Lions take the victory.
The senior defensive back intercepted four passes, with the fourth his own end zone in the final minute, and added 14 solo tackles in the Lions’ 21-16 victory over Sylvania. For his performance, Hubbard is this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association
Lady Cardinals win North Carolina tournament
The Gadsden State Community College volleyball team went 4-0 last weekend to win the North Carolina Bash in Pembroke, N.C.
The Lady Cardinals opened the tournament on Aug. 29 with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-16 sweep of Pittsburg Community College, followed by 25-17, 25-19, 25-18 win over Lake County College. On Aug. 30, GSCC posted a 25-18, 19-25, 25-21, 25-17 victory
Yellow Jackets open with win over Plainview
Glencoe opened the season with a 28-14 win over Plainview on Aug. 29.
For the No. 8 Yellow Jackets (1-0) Thomas Ozmint rushed for 166 yards on 20 carries. He also caught four passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.
Dylan Stone completed 10-of-20 passes for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
Andrew Lang had three receptions for 29 yards
