Southside upends Scottsboro, will play for region title

The 2014 Scottsboro-Southside game followed a similar script as did the 2013 matchup, which was unfortunate for Scottsboro.
For the second straight season, Southside raced out to a big early lead and went on to hand the host Wildcats a 42-16 setback in Class 6A, Region 7 action.

Gaston closer to playoff berth after Collinsville win

Gaston topped Collinsville 26-14, in a Class 2A, Region 7 football contest on Friday (Oct. 17) at CHS.
Mitchell Smith rushed for a pair of touchdowns for the Bulldogs (5-3, 3-2).
Jordan Douglas connected with Javonte Pope on a 34-yard touchdown pass, while Jashun Cammeron rushed for a score.
Albert Douglas had an interception on defense.

Coosa Christian fell to Class 1A, Region 7 rival Gaylesville, 51-32, on Friday (Oct. 17) at GHS.
For the Conquerors (1-7, 1-4) Johnny Grizzard completed 12 of 26 passes for 247 yards with three touchdowns while rushing eight times for 169 yards and three scores. Wesley Grizzard caught seven passes for 185 yards and three scores.

The New Canaan Baptist Church celebrated its 17th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. New Canaan Baptist is known as “A Little Church with a Big Heart.”
The program included a 50-plus mens choir from Birmingham called the Men of Praise. These men did an awesome job of singing songs of praise.
