Conquerors post sixth shutout of season

Coosa Christian clinched the third seed in Class 1A Region 7 with a 51-0 shutout over Woodville on Oct. 27 in Gadsden. The Conquerors (4-5, 3-3) travel to Spring Garden in the first round of the state playoffs on Nov. 10.
It was the sixth shutout of the season and the second straight for Coosa. The Conquerors limited Woodville to 49 yards while rolling up 395.
The Coosa defense forced and recovered three fumbles, one of which was returned 71 yards for a touchdown by Grant Morgan.
Cade Mickler finished with 12 tackles, including four for a loss. Clete O’Bryant had 10 stops, followed by Elie Motes with eight and D.J. Mackey with 7.5. Motes, Morgan and Hayden Franklin all had a sack.
Quarterback John David Justus finished with 189 combined yards and four touchdowns. He was 6 for 15 in passing for 119 yards and two TDs and rushed 10 times for 70 yards and two scores.
Joseph East (pictured above) paced the Coosa ground game with 85 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts. O’Bryant added 73 yards and a TD on nine carries. He also had three catches for 18 yards. Motes had two receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown.
Jadan Burns was 5-for-5 on extra points.
The Conquerors close out the regular season this Friday (Nov. 3) at Victory Christian in Pell City.
