Glencoe local Tori Parris recently released Pure: A Teenage Girl’s View Into a Lifestyle of Worship. The 150-page book consists of eight chapters that focus on the purity of thoughts, speech, actions, dress, relationships and hearts.
The book is an interactive guide for girls. It encourages girls to journal their thoughts, while having readers look up scripture verses. The book ends with a challenge for girls to sign.
Parris, a 20-year old college student at the University of Mobile, said that she had always wanted to write a book. She didn’t really have time, with a heavy course load in a double major of music and theology. Instead of graduating in the typical four years, Parris will graduate this spring after only three years.
Parris said that she used the writing as a way to relax from her grueling schedule. It took her eight months to complete.
After its completion, Parris did not seek for the book to be published. A stranger overheard her discussing the book with friends and requested a book. This interaction led to it being published with Pathway Press, a Christian publisher out of Cleveland, Tenn.
The book is available at Blooms on Broad in Gadsden and at www.toriparris.com for $10.
Parris will be hosting two book signings on February 27. From 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., Parris will be signing books at the Glencoe Library. From 1 to 3 p.m., she will be signing books at Blooms on Broad.
Parris is currently writing her second book, a study on Jesus’s personality.
Parris said that her first passion was music. She is recording a worship album called Jesus Kisses in April, that should be available this summer.
She currently works as a part-time associate worship pastor at Destination Church in Mobile.
