The Coosa Christian girls basketball team used a dominant performance by India Brown to take a 39-26 win over St. John Paul II in the opening round of the Etowah Girls Holiday Tournament Wednesday (Dec . 20) in Attalla.
Brown scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed 15 rebounds on her way to a triple double.
“When India has a strong game, we finish strong,” said Coosa head coach Jayme Hollingsworth. “This was a great win against a strong 5A program from a strong region.”
St. John Paul II raced out to an 8-7 lead after one period, but Brown gradually took control in the second quarter as she began to score at will and dominate the backboards.
The Lady Conquerors (10-4) led 16-15 at the halftime break behind Brown’s 10 points.
Coosa led 25-21 after three quarters and won going away as Brown continued her scoring barrage and shot blocking down the stretch.
Claire Davidson added seven points for the Lady Conquerors. Hannah Hall led St John Paul II with 15 points.
