2012 Southside High School graduate Karlee Hunter recently signed a softball scholarship with Snead State Community College in Boaz.

Karlee was six years old when she participated in rec league and travel/tournament softball.  Her school softball career began when she was in the 7th grade at Rainbow Middle School.

During her freshman year after her junior varsity season was over, then-SHS softball coach Kenny Fulmer asked Karlee to join the varsity team for the team’s area and regional tournament play.

Karlee took over the starting position at third base for the area and regional tournaments. She remained the starting third baseman for the rest of her high school career.

During her sophomore season under current head coach Angie Reavis Sanders, Karlee raked in several awards including, All-Etowah County, All-Class 5A, Area 12 and 2010 Defensive Player of the Year, a team award.

During her junior year, Karlee was named the MVP for the 5A, Area 12 Tournament. She also was named to the All-Area Tournament team her senior year.

While at Southside High, Karlee served on the Student Council for four years, was a four-year member of the varsity cheerleading team and was named head cheerleader her senior year.

“Karlee is a very good player and will do great things at Snead,” said Sanders. “She was a very good third baseman for our high school team. She hits well and is very strong defensively. I think she’ll be a great asset to Snead State.”

Karlee participated in several clubs and was voted into the Homecoming Court her sophomore, junior and senior years and was voted Senior Notable.

Karlee will be working toward becoming a registered nurse while at Snead State and plans on transferring to Jacksonville State University to earn a B.S. degree in Nursing.

Karlee is the daughter of Mike and Leslie Hunter of Southside. She is the granddaughter of Georgia Thompson of Maylene, Ala., and Randall and Karen Thompson and Ray and Patsy Hunter of Gadsden.
