Preparations are underway for the 73rd annual Etowah County Fair coming to the fairgrounds in Attalla Sept. 18-22. The 2012 fair promises all the traditional elements of the county fair – food, carnival rides and games, exhibits and entertainment. Etowah County’s fair is the second oldest in the state. It is sponsored by the American Legion Attalla Post No. 71 and co-sponsored by the Alabama Department of Agriculture.
While the bright lights of the carnival rides may attract the most attention at the fair, the county fair features the traditional exhibits and competitions.
Bobby Kline of the Etowah County Fair Association said he worked this week at the fairgrounds, finishing up a remodeling job on the restrooms at the fairgrounds to make the facilities handicapped accessible.
According to the 2012 fair book, all exhibits must be signed in on the following dates and times only: 1-4 p.m. Sept. 16 or 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 17. No entries will be accepted after 4 p.m. Sept. 17.
All entries and prizes will be awarded and picked up from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 23 or 9 -11 a.m. Sept. 24.
There will be entertainment on each night of the fair. On Sept. 18 from 6-7 p.m., The Christianaires perform; at 7-8 p.m., the Backwoods Boys. Sept.19 is Praise and Worship Night. On Sept. 20 Wanda Fox is on stage from 6-9 p.m. Kacy Fox performs from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 21.
Star Power Dancers will perform from 1-4 Saturday and from 6-9 p.m., Laura Dodd entertains.
