The Hokes Bluff girls took second place and the boys finished third at the Class 3A Section 3 track and field meet on April 24 at Fort Payne. Both teams will compete at the Class 3A state meet this Friday and Saturday (Apr. 30-May 1) at Cullman.
The Eagles medaled in 15 events, including four by Sam Green and three each by Haley Kate Wellingham and Ian Stinson.
Green (pictured above) set a new sectional record in the 3200 with a first-place time of 10:22.84. He also took second in the 1600-meter run (4:49.88) and was a member of Hokes Bluff’s first place 4×800-meter relay team along with Cole Turner, Bryer Morrison and Ethan Johnson (9:23.61). Green also qualified in the 800-meter run with a fourth-place time of 2:11.69.
Wellingham earned a second-place silver in the 200-meter dash (28.18) and a third-place bronze in both the 400-meter dash (1:05.70) and the long jump (14-00.00). She also qualified in the high jump at 4-4.
Stinson took second in the discus at 113-06 feet and third in both the shot put at 44-10.00 feet and javelin at 137-05 feet.
Maddie Sims won the discus (89-03), placed second in the javelin (94-10) was a member of the Lady Eagles’ first place 4×800-meter relay team along with Hope Thomason, Elizabeth Edge and Keira Johnson (11:37.21).
The boys 4×400-meter relay team of Jordan Bradley, Ethan Johnson, Noah Monday and
Dylan Johnston came in second with a time of 3:51.31. Johnston took the silver in the 300-meter hurdles (45.74) and bronze in the 110-meter hurdles (18.31), while Monday finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (48.28).
Also qualifying for state was Ethan Johnson in the 400-meter dash (fourth, 55:67); Noah Monday in the 300-meter hurdles (fourth, 48.28), Keira Johnson in the 1600-meter run (fifth, 6:19.44) and the 3200-meter run (fifth, 13:59.46); Chloe Rule in the high jump (eighth,4-4), Bryer Morrison in the 3200-meter run (eighth, 11:03.28) and Jase Wise in the javelin (eighth, 123-10).
