Southside finishes fourth at softball regionals

Southside finished fourth of out eight teams at the Class 6A East Central Regional Tournament in Montgomery.
The Lady Panthers lost their first game, then won two straight in the playback bracket before falling in the quarterfinals.
Southside opened the tournament last Wednesday (May 12) with a 4-2 loss to Mortimer Jordan, then defeated Huffman, 16-0. Against Mortimer Jordan, Carly Lankford, Lynnsey Hunt, Raeleigh McBurnett, Maddie Griffith and Ava Ramsey all had a hit. Lexi Darnell went six innings on the mound, scattering seven hits, two earned runs and no walks with three strikeouts. Against Huffman, Hunt went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Karlee Thompson (pictured above) went 2-for-2 with two RBI and three runs scored; Griffith went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored; Ramsey had a hit and two RBI; and Macey Herren and Sydney Yancey each scored two runs. In three innings, winning pitcher Anna Hopper allowed no hits, no runs and one walk while striking out seven.
On Thursday, May 13, Southside posted a 13-3 win in five innings over Shades Valley. Herren hit a two-run home run and scored a pair of runs; Yancey went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored; Thompson and Griffith each went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored; Ramsey went 2-for-3 with a run scored; Hunt went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored; Lankford went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored; and Kynsey Marble went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two run scored. Darnell earned the win in the circle, scattering seven hits, three earned runs with one strikeout. She did not walk a batter.
Southside exited the tournament later on Thursday with a 15-7 loss to Gardendale. Ramsey went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two run scored, Marble went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Herren went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Griffith went 2-for-3, Lankford had two hits and a run scored, Thompson had a hit and an RBI and Yancey had a hit.
