Titans can’t hold on against No. 2 Hoover

Gadsden City led Class 7A No. 2 Hoover by five points at halftime but was outscored 34-3 over the final two quarter in a 44-17 loss in Region 3 action on September 10 at GCHS.
The Titans (2-2, 0-2) opened the scoring midway through the first quarter when C.J. Miller broke free for an 81-yard touchdown run.
Hoover tied the game on Bennet Meredith’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Jabari Gaines before Miller found pay dirt from four yards out with three minutes remaining in the first half. Gabriel Brito made both extra points for Gadsden City. But the Bucs pulled away with four straight touchdowns in the third quarter, and the Titans managed only a 35-yard field goal by Brito the rest of the way.
Miller finished with 153 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Luke Waldrop was 4 for 10 in passing for 160 yards. Khamari Smith had four receptions for 44 yards, while Clyde Curry caught three passes for 53 yards. DeAndre Kirkpatrick led the way defensively with seven tackles, while Elijah Taylor and Rodney Johnson each had four.
Gadsden City continues region play this Friday (Sept. 17) at Spain Park.
