Etowah, Hokes Bluff sweep in first round

Etowah and Hokes Bluff both made it out of the first round of the AHSAA state baseball playoffs on April 22.
The Class 5A Blue Devils (22-11) defeated Central-Florence, 5-1 and 10-0, in Florence. Jameson Scissum was the winning pitcher in Game 1. In seven innings, he scattered three hits and walked one while helping his cause with an RBI double. Caleb Freeman pitched four innings in the nightcap, allowing two hits while striking out six.
Etowah hosts Westminster Christian in a second-round series beginning this Friday (April 29) in Attalla.
The Class 3A Eagles (21-11) posted a 11-2, 21-1 sweep over Holly Pond. Hokes Bluff travels to Elkmont this Friday (April 29) in the second round.
