Local golfers qualify for substate playoffs

A trio of area high school golfers qualified for the AHSAA subsatte playoffs next week.
At the Class 6A, Section 2 boys tournament last Monday (April 25) at Timberline in Calera, Southside’s Justin Lowry, Southside-Gadsden finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 79 score. The Panthers placed third overall with a 329 overall score. In the girls tournament, Southside’s Mallory Brooks and Shelby Hughes (pictured above)  finished third and fifth, with respective scores of 85 and 86. The Lady Panthers finished runner-up to Helena with an overall score of 337. At the Class 4A, Section 3 boys tournament at Silver Lakes in Glencoe, Etowah’s Easton Owens shot a 94 score to lead a Blue Devil team that placed third overall with 397 points.
