Gadsden State softball looks to build on record-breaking season

Coming off a historic 41-win season, the Gadsden State Community College softball program is continuing to raise the bar. Head Coach Ryan Clark and the Lady Cardinals have challenged themselves against some of the regions’ top NCAA Division I programs this fall, with one matchup remaining against Alabama A&M University.

The Lady Cardinals’ fall schedule has included Troy University, Kennesaw State University, Jacksonville State University, the University of Memphis, Austin Peay State University, and Auburn University.  Alabama A&M is the final Division I opponent on the schedule.

For Clark, the demanding slate reflects both the program’s progress and his vision for its future.

“We are to a point in our program to where we need to be playing these teams,” Clark said. “We want to play them for multiple reasons. We want to be able to play at a high level to compete with them, as well as get our athletes looked at for the next level.”

Since restarting the softball program, Clark has emphasized a culture centered on competition, development, and continued improvement. The Lady Cardinals’ record-breaking season marked a significant milestone, but the program’s expectations continue to grow.

The challenging fall schedule provides valuable opportunities for player development and exposure to four-year programs. Facing NCAA Division I competition allows the Cardinals to evaluate their performance against a higher level of play while showcasing their abilities to coaches at institutions where they may continue their careers. The experience supports Head Coach Ryan Clark’s goal of developing athletes who can succeed at the junior college level and pursue opportunities beyond Gadsden State.

The Lady Cardinals enter the final stretch of fall competition following a historic spring season in which they opened with a 24-0 record, spent several weeks in the national Top 25 rankings, and set a school record with 41 victories.

Gadsden State has also maintained its strong performance against junior college opponents this fall. In 12 regulation games, the Cardinals outscored their opponents 117-27, with eight contests ending early under the mercy rule. The results underscore the team’s offensive production and continued competitiveness at the junior college level.

With one final Division I matchup against Alabama A&M University remaining, the Lady Cardinals are focused on carrying that momentum into the spring season. The team aims to build on its record-setting success, continue developing its players, and create opportunities for student-athletes to advance to the next level.
