Southside runs roughshod over Lincoln

Southside scored 45 unanswered points en route to a 45-7 victory over Lincoln in the Panthers’ Class 5A, Region 6 opener on September 2 at Barney Hood Stadium.
Southside ended up with a 391 to 212 advantage in total yards, including a 354 to 171 edge on the ground.
Mason Teague was the man of the hour for the Panthers on offense, rushing for 175 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Cody Roberts (pictured above at left) )added 99 yards on five carries, while Kanon Wilson ran six times for 57 yards.
Gauge Nesmith had a combined 60 yards and three touchdowns passing and rushing. Roberts had two receptions for 25 yards and a score.
It was all Southside (2-1) after Montavious Weed’s 5-yard touchdown run for the Golden Bears at 6:29 of the first quarter.
Teague scored both of his touchdowns three and half minutes apart in the second quarter, the first a 17-yard run and the second from 25 yards out.
Nesmith’s 2-yard TD late in the period sent the Panthers into halftime ahead 21-7.
Southside made it 24-7 early in the second half on Abdullah Allabassi’s 32-yard field goal. Allabassi was a perfect 6-for-6 in extra points for the game.
The Panthers put the game away with a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth quarter, one from seven yards out and the other from three yards away.
Southside continues region action this Friday (Sept. 9) at home against Springville.
