Locals make all-state soccer teams

A number of local players were recently named to the Alabama High School Athletic Association All-State teams by AHSAA boys soccer coaches, who selected a Super All-State squad named regardless of classification along with Classes 7A, 6A, 5A, 4A and 1A/3A.
Making the Super All-State team were junior forward Camren Thompson, junior goalkeeper Hayes Cosby, sophomore midfielder Trek Gardner and senior defender Caleb Ogle (pictured above) from Southside; junior midfielder Baldimir Cervantes from Gadsden City; and senior forward Aiden Cornutt from Glencoe.
Along with Bladimir Cervantes, making the Class 6A All-State team from Gadsden City were senior defender Brandon Cervantes, junior forward Dimitri Guerrero, sophomore defender Zakorian Shack and senior goalkeeper Julio Lake.
Along with Thompson, Cosby, Gardner and Ogle, senior defender Eik Sigurd was named to the Class 5A All-State team.
Three area players were named to the Class 4A All-State team – junior forward J.D. Berndt and senior midfielder Ethan Daffron from Westbrook Christian and senior goalkeeper Walker Griffith from Ashville.
Selected for the Class 1A/3A All-State team along with Cornett were Glencoe junior midfielder Conner Montgomery, Hokes Bluff freshman forward Allen Cox, Glencoe senior goalkeeper Robert Edgar and Hokes Bluff junior midfielder Brayden Fox.
Earning honorable mention recognition were Westbrook junior defender Toren Cantrell, Ashville senior defender Garrett Spears and Westbrook junior defender Jake Edwards.
