County Spring season wraps up

Etowah County’s spring sports season concluded with many of the locals celebrating successful seasons.

Softball

Softball featured many locals advancing to the regionals. Here are their results.

The West End Patriots advanced to Class 2A State Semifinals, celebrating a spectacular season showcased by their talented young roster featuring several eighth graders.

Glencoe advanced to the regionals before losing one-run games to Spanish Fort and Weaver.

Etowah advanced to regionals and finished a strong season, winning two games.

Ashville lost in the regionals but treated their fans to an exciting come-from-behind win in their first game.

Sardis traveled to Florence for their regional appearance, where they finished a successful 20-win season.

Southside’s successful 25-win season came to an end in the regionals at Florence.

Gaston hired Cody Short as their new head coach.

Baseball

Here are the teams who advanced to the state postseason and how they fared.

All postseason series are Best-of-three.

Etowah excited their fans with another deep run through the state playoffs, reaching the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Deshler 2-0.

After the season, Westbrook Christian hired former Etowah assistant coach Ricky Ray Clayton, whose tenure with the Blue Devils under Head Coach Blake Bone included a state championship in 2023.

Southside’s Shane Chappell stepped down as head baseball coach after the season. The Panthers promoted current assistant and former Sardis Head Baseball Coach Ed Vinson to take over their program.

Coosa Christian fell in the first round to Hubbertville, 2-1.

West End lost to Vincent in the first round, 2-0.

Glencoe lost to Winfield in the first round, 2-0.

Hokes Bluff fell to Haleyville in the first round, 2-1.

Southside fell to Hartselle in the first round, 2-0.

Soccer

Southside dominated the local success, with their boys winning the Class 6A state title and their girls reaching the final four.

Here are the other programs who reached the postseason.

Glencoe girls advanced to the second round, finishing a successful season with 15 wins.

Hokes Bluff girls advanced to the second round of the playoffs, earning their program’s first postseason win.

Westbrook Christian girls advanced to the quarterfinals, finishing their season with 14 wins.

Southside girls reached the state semis before falling to runner-up Mountain Brook.

Hokes Bluff boys won nine games and fell in the first round of the postseason.

Westbrook Christian boys lost in the first round of the postseason.

Gadsden City boys advanced to the second round but lost to eventual champion Southside.

Southside boys won the Class 6A state title, defeating Spanish Fort 2-0 in the final.

Golf

Westbrook Christian advanced to their 15th state championship but finished second to Haleyville in Class 4A. The Warriors had won Class 3A state titles in 2023 and 2024.
