County teams eye deep runs as playoffs approach

The 2025 Alabama High School Football season is nearing its close, so it is the perfect time to take a look at the county teams that will be advancing to the playoffs next week.

Coosa Christian (Class 2A, Region 6) 8-2, 6-0

Coosa Christian is primed for another deep playoff run in Class 2A. Fresh off of another region title, they’ll be hosting the opening round game next week. As for this week, they’ll be on a BYE.

Gadsden City (Class 6A, Region 8) 6-3, 5-1

The Titans have had a great season thus far. They finished second in their region, with their only region loss coming at the hands of its champion, Fort Payne. They will host non-region opponent Fultondale tonight before eventually hosting a first-round playoff matchup.

Glencoe (Class 3A, Region 6) 7-2, 6-1

In the first year of Bayley Blanchard’s tenure as head coach, the Yellow Jackets returned to the playoffs for the first time in ten seasons. They will be traveling to Piedmont tonight for a chance to create a three-way tie for the region title, as well as a home playoff berth. If they lose tonight, they’ll drop to the third seed and travel for an opening round playoff matchup.

Westbrook Christian (Class 3A, Region 6) 8-1, 6-1

Head Coach Steve Smith and the Christian Warriors will host Wellborn this evening to hopefully secure a spot near the top of their region. A loss would secure third place, and a win could potentially create a three-way tie for the region title, as mentioned above. There is too much left to consider to determine whether they will be hosting or traveling in the opening round.

The first round of the AHSAA Football Playoffs will begin on Friday, Nov. 7.
