Despite losing in the first two games of the season, West End coach Randy Hallmark sees good things about his football team.
“We’re improving,” he said. “Against Ider, we shot ourselves in the foot. We gave up a touchdown just before halftime and we had a couple of big penalties on that drive. We should’ve been ahead 10-6 at halftime instead of down 14-10.
“And when a team is as fragile as we are, momentum plays a big part. We lost that momentum and it showed in the second half.”
The first quarter had some troubles too, with the Patriots driving inside the 20 twice and coming away with nothing.
“We don’t have an explosive back who can score from 60 yards out,” Hallmark said. “We’ve got to be able to drive the ball and we’ve got to be able to finish those drives.”
Last week for the Patriots, Levi Weems was 6-of-12 passing for 107 yards, while Rhett Lister caught four passes for 92 yards. Chase Blanton rushed 14 times for 71 yards.
