Etowah Commission to hold evening meetings

By Donna Thornton/News Editor

The Etowah County Commission is conducting a test.

The commission voted last week to change one meeting time a month during the months of May and June to late afternoon or evening.

Ordinarily, the commission meets at 10 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday of the month, with a work session conducted at 9 a.m. every week.

Etowah County Commission President Carolyn Parker said the change would give people who cannot attend a meeting of the county governing body during regular work hours a chance to come and see the function of the commission.

In May, the meeting on the third Tuesday – May 20 – will be at 5 p.m., with the work session at 4 p.m.

The meeting on the third Tuesday in June – June 17 – will follow the same schedule.

Parker indicated that changing the meeting times for the next two months will allow the commission to gauge whether members of the public would like to attend meetings and be better able to do so if they were held outside regular business hours.
