Principal Delsia Easley of W. E. Striplin Elementary recently participated in the ALS ice water challenge to raise awareness.
In addition, the school collected over $150 for the cause.
After she had the water pored on her by Coach Walker, Easley challenged other principals in the Gadsden City Schools, the superintendent of the school system, Ed Miller, and the P.E coach who poured the water, Coach Walker, to do the challenge and donate money to the charity of their choice.
Recently the ALS ice water challenge has grown popular. A large part of its publicity is due to the many celebrities that have participated in the challenge. Among these are Bill Gates, Oprah, Justin Timberlake, Steven Spielberg, Stephen King, George W. Bush, Shaquille O’Neal and many more.
ALS is better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that effects the brain. People who suffer from it gradually lose their motor skills and eventually are killed by the disease.
